National Parks in Atlantic Canada
Since 2012 and through various standing offers and supply agreements with both Parks Canada and Public Service Procurement Canada, PSPC (formerly Public Works), GEMTEC has been involved with dozens of projects in Canada’s National Parks and National Historic Sites across Atlantic Canada. In many cases, GEMTEC worked directly for Parks Canada and provided comprehensive project management from design to construction with tasks including design, permitting, surveying, tendering services, resident inspection, materials testing, and commissioning. Projects have included a wide variety of infrastructure, including design and rehabilitation of highways, bridges, seawall and coastal protection, slope stability and reinforcement, rehabilitation of historic buildings. Many of these projects were complex and involved improving existing infrastructure for the effects of seas-level rise and climate change. Sites where work was performed includes:
- Fundy National Park, New Brunswick
- Kouchibouguac National Park, New Brunswick
- Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia
- Fortress of Louisburg, Nova Scotia
- Kejimukujik National Park, Nova Scotia
- Halifax Town Clock, Nova Scotia
- L’anse-aux Meadows National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador
- Terra Nova National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador
- Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador
Our experience on National Park projects demonstrates our familiarity with the challenges associated with working in active recreational parks and developing innovative, cost-effective approaches to complex problems. Project sheets highlighting interesting Parks Canada Projects are included in Appendix B.
