Fundy Trail
St, Martins, New Brunswick
1997
A major tourist auto trail and separate multi-purpose trail for biking and hiking along the Fundy Coast which features an Interpretive Centre. The role of the landscape architect included development of special site construction details for: back slopes, soil retention, alterations to trail alignment for improved views and to mitigate disturbance, lay-by designs, salvaging topsoil, and rehabilitation with native plant species.
The Department of Natural Resources & Energy and the Maritime Forestry Complex retained the firm in 1997 to prepare a master plan for the Fundy Escarpment linear park to ensure vistas, trails, and landscape would be maintained in a natural, undisturbed state. The primary purpose was to integrate the Fundy Trail Parkway (auto route), the Fundy Trail (multi-user), and Fundy Footpath by providing a common vision. The document describes the physical and cultural resources of the area and recommends a future direction for infrastructure development that is consistent with the Bay of Fundy experience and maximizes tourism potential to meet the needs and expectations of visitors.
