Chapman Artificial Turf Field & Dome, UNB

Fredericton

Chapman Field is fashioned, somewhat after the field at St. Michael’s College in Toronto. A half size dome is erected during the winter to house indoor soccer, golf and other activities. The lit dome is fabricated out of canvas and is supported by an air blower that pressurizes the dome. The multi-purpose artificial turf field replaced the old natural turf field adjacent to the Aitken Centre.

A very competitive bidding process lead to favourable pricing allowing a permanent clubhouse to be added to the dome. Architect Peter Fellows was retained by UNB for the clubhouse design employing the same engineering team as the field project and Glenn Group to design circulation, drainage and landscaping around the clubhouse.

In 2012 the firm was retained to prepare renderings for proposed elevated press box, bleacher advertising and entrance feature to assist with fundraising. In 2020, the firm prepared tender documents for replacing the 13 year old artificial turf.
