Harbour Passage

New Brunswick

Selected in January 2002 to design the first phase of this major waterfront revitalization project, Glenn Group conducted a branding exercise to label, sign and market a scenic multi-use, all-season, and interpretive trail around Saint John Harbour. Seven phases and twenty years later, Harbour Passage remains a signature project for the firm. “The Harbour Passage is a passage of time, history, people, water and land – it is a link between our past and present, an acknowledgement of our proud maritime heritage, and a symbol of our community’s progress, renewal, and pride.”  The level of excitement generated by the design drawings has resulted in major funding partnerships.  In one short year “Harbour Passage” became a recognizable symbol of the renewal of the Saint John Waterfront.  The project won a Canadian Society of Landscape Architects national design award in 2005 and a provincial accessibility award in 2006.

Building anything along the waterfront in Saint John is a real challenge due to the extreme environmental conditions, archeological concerns, encumbrances of services and land ownership. Our designs have transformed the waterfront and inspired over $100,000,000 in private and public investment along the waterfront.  We managed a multi-disciplinary team of consultants and managed all construction activity. All the projects were completed on schedule.
